Thermal printing, direct to CD and DVD, is a cost effective method for small to medium size applications. Diversified Systems utilizes the latest Rimage technology to offer mono (single color) and Everest (full color) direct to disc thermal transfer printing.
Using specially formulated ribbons and a heat transfer process, graphic images are transferred from a single or multiple ribbons to the disc surface providing crisp, high resolution, durable CD and DVD labeling. Mono (single color) printing is best for basic text, logos, and line art. Full color printing is best for multi-color applications including the printing of high resolution photos and detailed graphics. Mono color printing is at 300 DPI while Everest color printing is at 600 DPI.
Thermal printing can be used in conjunction with silk-screening to provide economical printing of small volume lots of media where text information changes frequently or is required by the makeup of the application. For example, a client can pre-print a number of discs with their logo and other constant data that does not change from disc to disc. They then can use a thermal printer to print variable, disc specific information in smaller quantities as the need dictates such as disc number, version number, or copyright date. They achieve the cost benefits associated with printing larger volumes of media, yet still maintain the ability to print updated or disc specific information as and when required.
